How to make chole bhature ?

 

Chole bhature is a popular North Indian dish that consists of spicy chickpeas (chole) and fried bread (bhature). Here's an easy recipe for you to try at home:


Ingredients for Chole:

2 cups chickpeas, soaked overnight

2 tbsp oil

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 large onion, finely chopped

1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

2 large tomatoes, finely chopped

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 tsp coriander powder

2 tsp cumin powder

2 tsp garam masala powder

1 tsp red chili powder

Salt to taste

2 cups water

Chopped fresh coriander for garnish


Ingredients for Bhature:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 tbsp oil

1/2 cup plain yogurt

1/2 cup warm water

Oil for frying


Instructions for Chole:

1. Rinse the soaked chickpeas and drain the water.

2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds.

3. Add chopped onions and sauté until they are translucent.

4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.

5. Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until they are soft.

6. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

7. Add soaked chickpeas and water. Mix well.

8. Cover the pressure cooker with a lid and cook for 6-7 whistles on high flame or until chickpeas are tender.

9. Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and check if the chickpeas are cooked properly.

10. If the gravy is too thick, add some more water to adjust the consistency.

11. Garnish with chopped fresh coriander and keep aside.


Instructions for Bhature:

1. In a mixing bowl, add all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and oil. Mix well.

2. Add plain yogurt and mix again.

3. Add warm water gradually and knead the dough until it becomes soft and smooth.

4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.

5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium flame.

6. Divide the dough into equal portions and shape them into balls.

7. Roll out each ball into a circle of about 6-7 inches diameter.

8. Carefully slide the rolled-out bhature in the hot oil and fry until they are puffed and golden brown on both sides.

9. Remove the bhature from the pan and place them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

Serve hot chole with freshly fried bhature and some chopped onions and lemon wedges on the side. Enjoy your delicious chole bhature!
